Calling FDA attention to wacky grocery nutritional labeling system
In May, NCL filed a formal complaint with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about a nutritional scoring system - used in 1,600 stores nationwide - that gives snack chips, soft drinks, and desserts scores as high as or higher than some canned fruits and vegetables.

Lemon juice is a kitchen staple, used in cooking, baking, and flavoring in many recipes, and many cooks opt for the convenience of bottled lemon juice, rather than keeping fresh fruit on hand. Recently, the National Consumers League has discovered that not all bottled lemon juice products are what they claim to be.

The makers of vitaminwater are using claims to sell their products that are making consumer advocates call "foul." In a new complaint to the Federal Trade Commission, NCL is calling advertising and labeling claims on vitaminwater products “dangerously misleading” and is urging the commission to halt deceptive statements being made by the manufacturer.
